DAY 9: I'm Out, Now What?

In our daily lives, we spend a lot of time in buildings.

If the time came where your "building" had to evacuate, would you know where to go so that you could be accounted for?

DAY 9 ACTIVITY:  Today, you will earn a point EACH for identifying the evacuation location of the buildings YOU spend time in weekly (up to 6 locations).  Some examples could include:
  • Employment
  • Schools
  • Fitness Centers
  • Churches/Worship Centers
  • Grocery Stores
  • Restaurants
PROOF:  Choose one of the following ways to record your answer for up to 6 locations:
  • Leave a comment with your answer in it on this blog post
  • Put your answer on the CRESA Facebook Fan Page or tag CRESA in a note, if you are recording your activities on your own page.
  • Provide the answer on Twitter (please include @CRESA or hashtag #30days30ways in your tweets)
  • If you are uncomfortable sharing this information online, you may email your answer to: cheryl.bledsoe@clark.wa.gov
For the #30Days30Ways rules, check out this blog post: http://cresa911.blogspot.com/2010/08/30-days-30-ways-preparedness-challenge.html
Answers may be submitted on all tasks anytime between now and midnight on 9/30/10.

Hmmm. Escape routes.. Clicking my heels 3 times won't work, will it?
Gym: There are emergency exits located on all floors (And a lot of glass windows)
Home: I have 3 Egress exits and the front door.
Work: Our safety plan includes an evac plan, our meeting location is in the basement of the Parking Garage. I don't know how safe that really is?
School: Depends on which campus I'm at, but usually means standing in the middle of the parking lot. Interesting side note from school, in the case of a "shooter" we're supposed to huddle in a dark corner of the room with the lights off. That's a scary proposition.
Outside: Can't forget outside! Making sure to get away from Power poles, trees and into an open area.
I Almost Forgot: The Mall! I'm there many times a week, since I work next to it. That's the only one that I don't know the dedicated evac route. I just know I gotta get the heck out of dodge. There's lots of skylights in there. :)

So, first of all it is hard for me to actually be in 6 places for the week. I live and work and work. :) We have an evac point to the side of the heli pad. At home, I am out the stairs and to the park or out the window with my fast rapel kit and to the park. At church, it's off to the parking lot. When I am in the truck, it's over any obsticale in the way and when I am at trader joes, it's the safety of the cute cashier ;) first.
Oh and if I am downtown for meetings, I go for Seattle's EOC. And the sixth... If I am on the train to PDX, I just hug my computer and pray.

1) work - back door.
2) home - back door.
3) church- side doors
4) mall- closest central loc would probably be the exit under food court - depending on where you are though - i know where all the main doors are though in and out
5) hotel rooms (i always read the evac plan in the hotel brochure in the books they leave laying on the table or in the drawer and never stay above the 7th floor and always count how many doors i am away from the stair exits in case its dark and smokey :)
6) grocery stores - only exits i know of are the in/outs as you enter. i will pay attention next time i go to the grocery store and see if i see any other doors.
