We just had the landlord install smoke detectors in each of the bedrooms, so all of the detectors were checked at that point. Previous to that, checks on the smoke detectors were done at the time change, as they are semi-annually!

It had been at least a year since I changed the batteries in my smoke detectors and last week I burned toast and found that the two nearest the kitchen work just fine! Which also reminded me to change all the detectors batteries and to put a note on the fridge of the date that each should be tested.
