Don't Dig Into Trouble - Call Before You Dig!

Got any excavation projects planned for the spring?  Don't forget that if you are going to dig down more than 12 inches you are required to call 811 at least two business days before your project.  This is important to ensuring your safety.

CRESA and our response agencies have responded to pipeline incidents over the years resulting from excavactors accidentally cutting into underground pipes and releasing natural gas and causing other problems.  In 2012, Washington State had 1,289 incidents regarding damage to gas pipelines caused by digging.  Aside from pipelines there are other important underground utilities.  A handful of times over the years, telephone (including 911!) services have been disrupted because excavators cut into telephone lines.

Calling 811 before you dig is an important step to preventing these incidents.  In recognition of the value of this notification, Governor Inslee proclaimed April 'Safe Digging Month'
