DAY 10: Remembering Our History

George Santayana, a Spanish-American philosopher, once said "Those who cannot remember our past are condemned to repeat it."

Tomorrow marks the 9-year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/2001.  In an effort to pause and reflect about a day which forever changed the definition of emergency preparedness, we ask only one simple question today....where were you?

DAY 10 ACTIVITY:  For today's point, share a memory or special recollection relating to 9/11/01.

PROOF: Choose one of the following ways to record your answer:
  • Leave a comment with your answer in it on this blog post
  • Put your answer on the CRESA Facebook Fan Page or tag CRESA in a note, if you are recording your activities on your own page.
  • Provide the answer on Twitter (please include @CRESA or hashtag #30days30ways in your tweets)
  • If you are uncomfortable sharing this information online, you may email your answer to: cheryl.bledsoe@clark.wa.gov
For the #30Days30Ways rules, check out this blog post: http://cresa911.blogspot.com/2010/08/30-days-30-ways-preparedness-challenge.html

Answers may be submitted on all tasks anytime between now and midnight on 9/30/10.

[Special Note:  We recognize that considering 9/11 evokes strong feelings, religious and political agendas.  Out of deference to the families of those who lost their lives, we will moderate comments to ensure that those posted meet the spirit of remembrance and reflection.]

There are so many things I was feeling that day. So I will just post one feeling i had - i hate to fly - and i just kept thinking about those horrified people in the planes. It's still something I remember and pause to pray for their families.

I was at home, sick as a dog with the flu. I woke up, turned on the news, and saw people jumping out of windows out of the burning building that was the twin towers. Heartbreaking, gutwrenching, terrible. So many atrocities committed falsely in the name of God.
