August Begins with National Night Out

Summer is officially here with the beautiful weather as the 2nd Tuesday in August.

Did you know that tonight is National Night Out which has been celebrated since 1984 as a unique crime prevention activity?  The purpose of National Night Out is to encourage neighbors to spend time getting to know each other.

Whether it be through BBQs or social activities, knowing your neighbors helps you better spot when things are out of place in your local community and know who might be relying on you during times of emergencies.

Here in Clark County, the City of Ridgefield is hosting a communitywide National Night Out Celebration at Davis Park from 6p-8p.

And even if you aren't in a celebratory mood tonight, we encourage every neighborhood in Clark County to participate in the "Map Your Neighborhood" Program which is sponsored by the State of Washington's Emergency Management Division.

"Map Your Neighborhood" is an easy way to gather your neighbors, learn about the strengths & resources that exist among you and figure out how best to care for your street.  From turning off gas after a large earthquake to checking in on those nearby who might need some help, this program fosters a sense of better understanding of the key needs on your street.

And, when disaster strikes, each of us will truly be the "first responders" on our streets.  Are you ready?
