July 4th Street Closures in Vancouver

Below is information directly from the Fort's press release regarding street closures

The Fort Vancouver National Trust has announced July 4th street closures to facilitate moving traffic efficiently in and out of the downtown area for the Independence Day at Fort Vancouver celebration. The traffic flow of some streets will be temporarily closed. Several streets around the event site will be closed to traffic or be under traffic control all day and/or right before and after the fireworks show.

People are encouraged to take public transportation if possible and to pay attention to signage and blockades before parking in areas with limited access. For information call the Fort Vancouver National Trust, 360-992-1800 or visit www.FortVan.org

No parking/tow away zone from July 2 through July 4: Fort Vancouver Way from Mill Plain to Fourth Plain including the median strip. To expedite traffic from the City after the fireworks end, all traffic leaving the area will travel north on Fort Vancouver Way on July 4 from 9 a.m. until midnight.

All day street closures on July 4th
  • Evergreen Blvd. closed from U Street west to I-5
  • Evergreen Blvd. at West Reserve
  • East Reserve at Mill Plain (Reserve south of Mill Plain will be closed all day)
  • 9th Street at East Reserve
  • 8th Street at T Street
  • 5th and 6th Streets at U Street
  • Mill Plain at Fort Vancouver Way (Fort Vancouver Way from Mill Plain south will be closed all day.
July 4th street closures beginning at 6:00 p.m.

  • Hwy 14 at Grove Street-Columbia House Drive exit
  • Hwy 14 at Columbia House Drive/Columbia Way exit
  • Mill Plain exit from I-5 northbound
  • Mill Plain exit from I-5 southbound will be west only (right turn)
  • Mill Plain between East Reserve and Fort Vancouver Way will be closed to all civilian traffic from 6 p.m. to 12 p.m.
July 4 street closures beginning at 9:00 p.m.

  • No east/west travel on McLoughlin at Fort Vancouver Way
  • McLoughlin at East Reserve, westbound closed
  • Grand at McLoughlin, westbound closed
  • From St. John’s, westbound turn only onto Fourth Plain
  • Fourth Plain exit from I-5 northbound, no east (right) turn
  • Fort Vancouver Way: all three lanes will be northbound from 9 p.m. to 12 p.m.
Boater information
In past years when fireworks were launched from a barge in the Columbia River, the Marine Park boat launch closed in the evening. This year, the fireworks are being launched from Pearson Field. Boaters will not be affected.

Parking information
  • Marshall House and Luepke Center: Parking is prohibited in the area of the Marshall House and Luepke Center.
  • Motor homes, campers and trailers: There is no general provision for parking these vehicles
  • Sports fields: No parking at the sports fields south of Mill Plain between East Reserve and Fort Vancouver Way.
  • Disabled parking will be available at the event site for a limited number of vehicles. Enter the site via the gate at Evergreen and West Reserve (west of I-5 near the Academy). Proceed to 5th Street as directed. The length limit on handicapped motor home parking is 18 feet. Must display current state-issued disabled parking placard. Admission fee to the event applies.
  • Available parking downtown: All downtown parking meters are free for the holiday. Parking in street spaces and City of Vancouver lots will be free.
  • Clark College: In the past, public parking was available at Clark College. This year on July 4th, the parking lots at Clark College will be closed all day.
  • Paid parking near the event: Parking is available at a lot at 5th and “S” Streets for $10 per vehicle. This lot is operated by the fire cadets. No fireworks, BBQs or RVs will be permitted in this lot. There is no re-entry privilege.
  • Parking will be prohibited on many streets near the event site including SR-14, I-5 and Fort Vancouver Way.
Fort Vancouver National Historic Site regulations
  • National Park Service restrictions will be in effect. No alcohol, fireworks, pets, charcoal or propane BBQs or other open flames will be allowed into the event area.
  • Overnight camping on park grounds is prohibited.
  • Volleyball and badminton nets are prohibited.
  • Free-standing tents, tarps, umbrellas and sun shades are permitted, provided that they do not impede stage or fireworks visibility; they are open on at least one side; they do not use stakes or involve ground disturbance and they are not tied or otherwise connected to trees, fences or other features.
C-TRAN shuttle from Westfield Vancouver Mall
Due to the reduced number of available public parking areas and viewing areas, citizens are encouraged to carpool or to take public transportation if at all possible. C-TRAN provides express bus service from Westfield Shoppingtown Vancouver Mall to the event site from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for $2 per person.
