We are pleased to announce an exciting panel of speakers for the Vancouver Planning Commission's First Tuesday Event on May 4th. The topic of this panel discussion will be "Earthquakes: Measure the Hazard and Mitigate the Impacts." Earthquakes have made headline news this year with significant quakes hitting a number of populated areas like Haiti, Chile and China, just to name a few.
The speakers for First Tuesday have a significant amount of experience with this topic and are in demand throughout the metropolitan area for their wisdom, insight and recommendations. They include:
James Roddey
Information Officer for DOGAMI which is the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries. James will be speaking specifically to the earthquake hazard. If you have never heard him speak on this topic, you are in for a treat. His knowledge of earthquake history and its impact on our local planning is always thought-provoking. There is a reason why this picture is synonymous with James' name in Google (if you can't read it, it says "in case of tsunami, follow me"):
Jay Wilson
Mitigation Planner for Clackamas County Emergency Management will be speaking to issues of Hazard Mitigation as it relates to earthquakes. Jay has also worked for the State of Oregon in the area of Mitigation and is seen throughout the region and nation as one of the foremost experts in this area. In fact, this week, Jay is testifying before the U.S. Congress on issues of mitigation.
Elizabeth Vaughn
Continuity Planner for Clark County, will provide some tips, hints and strategies for ensuring business continuity during periods of potential service-disruption.
Cheryl Bledsoe
Emergency Management Division Manager for the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA), will be speaking on personal preparedness and how to ensure that you can be ready to receive emergency alerts and local information about response efforts here within Clark County.
May First Tuesday will occur from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4th, at Vancouver City Hall. Please RSVP to Terry Lenhart by calling 360-487-7955 or sending email to Terry.Lenhart@ci.vancouver.wa.us today. This event will also be broadcast on CVTV should you want to watch it from home.
