Inclement Weather Policies

From a business perspective, it is very important that employees know and understand their inclement weather policies. It seems that in every weather-related situation, the most politically painful issues for employers include:

  • WHO (what position or department) has the authority to make the call on whether the agency or business will be closed (or limited to essential services)

  • HOW the message is communicated to all employees, and

  • CONSISTENT MESSAGING regarding compensation issues (whether employees will have to use their paid leave during any closure or whether the agency will cover those hours).

Please use time today wisely to ensure that from the top to the bottom of your agency, employees understand and know your local inclement weather policies. The minutes you spend today on this issue will save you hours of distress later in sorting out the confusion.
