At 3:03 p.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for the Portland Metropolitan Area for Tuesday, August 5th, from 11a to Thursday, August 7th, at 5:00 a.m. The text of the advisory is listed below:
HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TUESDAY TO 5 AM PDT THURSDAY FOR THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY...INLAND AREAS ALONG THE COLUMBIA RIVER...AND HOOD RIVER VALLEY AND THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PORTLAND HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TUESDAY TO 5 AM PDT THURSDAY.
HOT WEATHER WILL RETURN TO THE LOWER INLAND AREAS OF NORTHWEST OREGON AND SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON ON TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB INTO THE MID 90S ON TUESDAY FOLLOWED BY A LITTLE COOLING ON WEDNESDAY WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 90 TO 95 DEGREES. IN ADDITION...OVERNIGHT TEMPERATURES WILL COOL ONLY INTO THE 60S ADDING TO THE HEAT STRESS.
TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN MUCH COOLER ALONG THE BEACHES AND NEARBY COASTAL AREAS HOWEVER.
THE HOT WEATHER WILL BE PRODUCED BY STRONG HIGH PRESSURE AND SOUTHERLY FLOW THAT WILL DEVELOP OVER THE REGION. TEMPERATURES WILL MODERATE ON WEDNESDAY...AND COOL INTO THE 80S ON THURSDAY.
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. HOT TEMPERATURES WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR- CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
