Great Washington ShakeOut

The Great ShakeOut earthquake drill is an opportunity to practice how to be safer during earthquakes:  "Drop, Cover and Hold On."   ShakeOut also has been organized to encourage you, your school, your organization and ultimately our community as a reminder of updating plans and supplies, along with securing your space, in order to prevent damage and injuries.

The Great Washington Shake Out is a one minute drill to practice how to protect ourselves during an earthquake and how to get prepared. The exercise marks the anniversary of the great Cascadia Subduction Zone quake that hit the Northwest in 1700. Scientists believe the Northwest is primed for a large scale earthquake and the region should begin preparing for such an event.  It's not too late to participate.

There is still time to register and join almost 1 million Washingtonians, our partners in Oregon, and many more around the U.S. and the world.  There are also several other ways you can get involved not only as an individual, but as a business, school, faith-based organization, and community groups.

There are plenty of reasons of WHY you should participate in the Great Washingtion ShakeOut but a chance to win a $10,000 home earthquake retrofit is a great added incentive.

The Washington ShakeOut Website has many useful tools you can download and share. Challenge your friends, and co-workers that no matter where they may be, to join in for the Great Washington ShakeOut 10/17/2013 at 10:17 a.m.!!
