CRESA will be Out and About!! Stop By and Say Hi!!

Well you can tell we are past Memorial Day!  The busy summer weekends have started, and why not kick it off right!! CRESA Public Education will be out and about in force on June 1st!  Make sure if you are attending one of the following events, you come by one of our public education tables and say "Hi!!"

Clark County Fire District 3 Open House,  It just happens to be part of  Hockinson Fun Days.  The annual Pancake Breakfast and open house kick off the morning at the Main Fire Station. Also  included in this fun event; a Water Squirt, Car Extrication Demo, Life Flight Helicopter landing, K-9 demonstration, a sprinkler house demonstration, and a structure fire/rescue demonstration.  CRESA will have our table open from 7 am to 11 am. 

Clark County Fire District 6 Open House,  Featuring automobile extrication demonstrations, Clark County Sheriff's Office K-9 shows, a Life Flight helicopter landing, the fire escape smoke house (a mobile structure in which we teach children to practice escaping from their own home as if it were filled with smoke or on fire), free food, low cost bicycle helmets, fire engines (new and old), and more. It is a community event you don't want to miss. CRESA will have a display table there between 12 pm and 4 pm.

Hike on the Dike, 11 am to 2 pm at Pendleton Woolen Mills to support the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society.  We will be supporting their event and and this great cause while sharing CRESA Pub Ed information and recruitment for the CRESA Bark For Life to be held June 15!!

It has been 10 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and it is evident that our community is pausing to reflect on the loss, the impact and the ways in which our world has changed.

This year has been designated by the President of the United States as the first National Day of Service and Remembrance.  It is hoped that as we remember, we will serve in honor of those who served us with the ultimate price of their lives.

There are many events this coming weekend for you to choose from throughout Clark County.  They include:

Ghost Town Poetry Reading at Cover to Cover Books at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8th

CRESA Open House along 13th Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th

Roses & Steel 9/11 Memorial will be held at Cowlitz Fire at 701 W Vine St, Kelso at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th.  Steel from the World Trade Center & a fire department open house.

Clark County Fire District 3 will host an observance at 6:58 a.m. at 17718 NE 159th St in Brush Prairie on Sunday, September 11th.

Camas Fire will host a bell ceremony and breakfast at the Camas Library at 625 NE 4th Ave in Camas at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th.

Clark County Fire & Rescue Firefighter's Association will host their 7th Annual Golf Tournament at the Lewis River Golf Course.  Contact Michael Book at michael.booth@clarkfr.org for more information.


Vancouver Freedom Walk is a 2.5 mile walk through the Vancouver Historic Reserve and begins at Grand Central Fred Meyers.  Registration starts at 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th.

Memorial in the Park will be a memorial church service hosted by the First Church of the Nazarene at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th.

Service of Remembrance will be held at Majesty Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th.

10th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 11th at Vancouver Landing on the Columbia River at the Amphitheater near the Quay. 

East County Fire & Rescue will serve a spaghetti dinner at Station 91 at 600 NE 267th Ave in Camas from 5:30p-7:00p on Sunday, September 11th.

Next Saturday is CRESA's Open House!

Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency (CRESA) will open its doors to the public during our annual Open House on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  The event will take place at 710 W. 13^th Street, Vancouver, Washington, 98660. 

It was nearly 10 years ago that the world took on new meaning for public safety and emergency responders.  Following the tragic events of September 11, new regions and partnerships were formed, grant programs created and volunteers came forward to figure out how to improve and enhance our local communities.  If you sit around a volunteer group very long, many of the volunteers will tell a story of how they got into public service because of September 11^th. 

But before 9/11/01, September has always held a special place for emergency dispatchers because the date contains 9-1-1 and falls within National Preparedness Month for the emergency management profession.  For all of these reasons, CRESA always hosts its annual party on this weekend. 

Some of the fun activities planned for children of all ages include a “thank you first responders” coloring station, face painting, creative button making, exploring homeland-security & emergency vehicles, meeting firefighters, police officers, search and rescue dogs and horses.  Local businesses have donated hot dogs, pizza, chips and beverages available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

The public will have the unique opportunity to tour the 9-1-1 center and see dispatchers in action taking emergency calls.  Sneak a peek inside the workings of our Emergency Operations Center.  Subject matter experts from throughout the region will be on hand to answer all of your questions.  Interact with representatives from our Homeland Security Program, a National Weather Service Meteorologist, a county mapping expert and Amateur Radio technical experts.  Parents can also pick up free Child ID Kits. 

Enjoy lively demonstrations from police K-9 teams, SWAT, and many local skilled Search and Rescue Groups.  Explore the latest in specialized public safety vehicles including an Armored Personnel Carrier, a Heavy Rescue Vehicle, Fire Engines, Ambulances, Police Command Vehicles, and much more.  

There will even be a geocaching event this year which encourages participants to find certain markers throughout the event related to emergency preparedness.  To participate in the geocache, we would like folks to pre-register so that we can share information with you in advance of this event.  The pre-registration form for the geo-caching is located at this location by clicking HERE.

National Weather Service Open House on August 27th

Did you know that the National Weather Service has their regional office very close to Clark County, Washington?  Located in NE Portland, this office provides weather forecasts and all sorts of nifty monitoring of key meteorological and hydrological modeling. 

And, on August 27th, the general public is invited to come and check it out from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at their headquarters located at 5241 NE 122nd Avenue in Portland. This is an exciting opportunity to check out the incredible technology that they use and a great time to learn more about weather and river level forecasting.
